Course description/overview:

The major emphasis of this course is to provide students with knowledge of scientific principles, the standards required by the state, and the skills necessary for leading lives in a technical society. 
 

Learning outcomes/objectives:
 

Students are expected to master the California State Standards for 8th grade Physical Science.

 

Course materials:

Texts used:
-Focus on Physical Science (Prentice Hall) 
-Science Workshop Series (Globe) 

Supplies needed:

-Two composition notebooks, USB Flash drive, one pen and pencil.

Classroom Procedures:

1. Be in class on time. 
2. NO GUM OR FOOD in class. 
3. Be respectful to all others. 
4. When the teacher talks, students must be quiet and listen. 
5. Follow the Nightingale Way. 

Grading policy: 
 

The grades will be determined by: Classwork, tests, quizzes, projects and homework. 
-Homework = 20% 
-Classwork, Class activities, Participation, Projects, Reports = 40% 
-Test, Quizzes, Oral Exams, Assessments = 40% 
 

Homework is daily and due the next day. Homework consists of a combination of textbook assignments, projects, internet research, current events and worksheets. 

Late work: Get 1/2 credit. 

Extra Credit: Students are allowed to earn extra credit points on their Journal to cover their late works and extra credit will be given weekly. 
 

Grading scale:
 

A = 90% - 100% 
B = 80% - 89% 
C = 70 % - 79% 
D = 60% - 69% 
Fail = 59% or less
