School Uniform
Students are expected to be in their school uniform, all day, everyday. The Nightingale uniform includes white-collared shirts, and navy blue pants and shorts. Shoes must cover the toes, and jackets and sweatshirts must be appropriate for school. Exceptions to the uniform policy are made for physical education classes, where students where the prescribed Nightingale PE shorts and T-shirts. Students can earn "free-dress" or uniform-optional days, by receiving Nightingale bills from staff members. 10 signed bills can be redeemed for a "free-dress" pass, which can be used on selected Fridays.
Random Metal Searches
The Dean and dean's office staff is responsible for conducting daily random metal searches. Students are randomly selected from various classrooms, and a hand-held, battery-operated metal detector is utilized to detect if any student is hiding a metal object. Backpacks and book bags are also subject to search. Physical Education lockers may be searched as well. Students who are ramdomly selected receive a note that can be brought home to parents and legal guardians, informing them of their child's participation in the search. Any and all questions regarding these procedures can be directed to the dean's or principal's office.
