About M.E.S.A
The MESA Schools program is a pre-college program that serves educationally disadvantaged students to prepare them for a career in math, science, engineering, computer science, and technology. MESA was founded in 1970 during the Civil Rights Movement and it stands for Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement. It has a long history of supporting those students with traditionally low eligibility for higher education, and is designed to support math and science excellence. The mission of MESA is to enable educationally disadvantaged students to prepare for and graduate from a four year university in careers based in math, science, engineering, and technology.
MESA not only serves pre-college students through the MESA Schools Program that supports middle school and high school students throughout the state of California, but also at the college and university level. The MESA Community College Program supports community college students so that they can transfer to a four-year University to pursue a math, science, engineering, or technology degree. The MESA Engineering Program assists engineering, computer science, and technology majors at California Universities.
MESA is a winner of the Presidential Award of Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring. MESA is a model program and is recognized on a national level as one of the most innovative programs in the nation.
